When you book junk removal, it helps to know what can go on the truck and what cannot. Most furniture, appliances, boxes and yard debris are fine. A short list of items is not, mostly because they are dangerous to load, carry or dump. Here is what junk removal can't take in Tacoma, and where those items can go instead.

What Junk Removal Can't Take in Tacoma
At Dash Junk Removal, we cannot haul these items in a regular load:
- Paint and stains, including oil-based and latex paint
- Chemicals like pesticides, pool chemicals, solvents and cleaners
- Fuel and oil, including gasoline, motor oil and antifreeze
- Propane tanks and other compressed gas cylinders
- Asbestos or materials that may contain it, like some old flooring or pipe wrap
- Medical and biological waste
- Ammunition, fireworks and explosives
These items can leak, burn or harm the people handling them. Landfills and transfer stations also have strict rules about them, so they need their own drop-off.
Where to Take Hazardous Items in Tacoma
Pierce County runs free household hazardous waste drop-off for residents at two sites, according to Pierce County Household Hazardous Waste:
| Site | Address | Open |
|---|---|---|
| Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Station | 3510 S Mullen St, Tacoma | Friday to Monday, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. |
| Hidden Valley Transfer Station | 17925 Meridian E, Puyallup | Tuesday and Thursday, 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. |
They take things like household cleaners, oil-based paint, paint thinner, pesticides, car fluids, batteries and fluorescent bulbs. There are limits, like 5 gallons of gasoline and 5 quarts of motor oil. Propane tanks are accepted at the Tacoma site. Latex paint is handled through the PaintCare program instead. Hours and rules can change, so check the county page before you go.
What About TVs and Electronics?
